Summer Poem10

To Do List from God

 By Joanna Fuchs

I ran my life in search of worldly things;
My time and will were firmly in control.
I thought I had no need for what God brings;
I gave no heed to murmurs from my soul.

“You’re planning, doing all the time," it said,

“But something else is missing deep inside.
Your mind is whirling, but your heart is dead,
So turn to God and let go of your pride.”

I did, and God said, “Here’s My plan for you:
Give your life to Me, and just let go.
Have faith and pray, and read the Bible through

And you’ll have blessings more than you can know.”

So simple, yet it brings me perfect peace,
Living life for God the way I should.

Direction, purpose, fullness and release—
Life with God is very, very good.

Pastors note

Dear Saints and Friends of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield,

“The more things change, the more they stay the same."

Are you a person who loves change? Or does the very idea of altering the way it's always been send chills up and down your spine – especially if it wasn't your idea?

Whatever your reaction, know the truth – change is going to happen. It's inevitable and unavoidable, so there's no sense fighting every change that arises. The secret to effective and productive change is found in the first eight verses of Ecclesiastes chapter three.

“There is a season for everything and a time for every matter under the heavens:
a time for giving birth and a time for dying,
a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted,
a time for killing and time for healing,
a time for tearing down and a time for building up,
a time for crying and a time for laughing

a time for mourning and a time for dancing,
a time for throwing stones and a time for gathering stones,
a time for embracing, and a time for avoiding embraces,
a time for searching and a time for losing,
a time for keeping and a time for throwing away,
a time for tearing and a time for repairing,
a time for keeping silent and a time for speaking,
a time for loving and a time for hating,
a time for war and a time for peace.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (CEB)

Due to continuing changes in health, Judy and I have had to acknowledge and accept that those changes are occurring whether we want them to or not, and that the conditions will not be improving dramatically. So we are making adjustments accordingly. One result is our decision to retire from called ministry, effective December 31 of this year.

Adjusting to changes in life is one of the most difficult things we all have to do. There is almost always a sense of denial and anger before there is acceptance - similar to the

grieving process. However, our confidence as Christians - yours and mine - is in

knowing God has our life in the palm of His hands. God is in control, and whatever changes are in store for us, God will always be there to guide us and strengthen us.

Yours because of Christ,

Rev. Ron Sumption

Chosen International Medical Assistance

"A Christ ministry dedicated to improving the quality of life to all God's

people for His glory."

Chosen International Medical Assistance needs your shoes! Everyone has shoes they are no longer wearing, and don't know what to with, right? Chosen International Medical Assistance partners with funds2org to collect your used shoes. The shoes (including sneakers, boots, sandals, etc.) will be used to create and sustain

micro-enterprise opportunities for low income entrepreneurs in developing nations. They will also stay out of landfills, AND, the more shoes collected, the more money Chosen IMA receives to continue its ministries! It's a Win, Win, Win! You can drop off your shoes at the church office or drop in a box located at the Portage Street entrance. Please rubber band each pair of shoes together. Thank you!

BuckhornBuckhorn Children & Family Services has had a 115 year history of providing quality programs intended to improve the lives of at-risk children, youth and their families. Buckhorn is now facing critical financial circumstances which threaten the continued

existence of Buckhorn, its history and mission to provide a sanctuary of health, healing and hope for at-rish children, youth

and families. This financial crisis is due in large part to the costs of caring for the children and youth in their care. To help their financial crisis the Mission Committee has adopted two fundraising projects to help raise funds for Buckhorn.

Dimes

KEEP SAVING THOSE DIMES!

"Dimes for Buckhorn."  In September 2017 we began filling three 2 liter bottles with dimes.  Each 2 liter bottle results in approximately $400.  The bottles are located at the entrances to the sanctuary or you

can bring them to the church office.

Buck(s) for Buckorn Children & Family Services:  There will be a box  labeled "Buck(s)Buck for buckhorn for Buckhorn" at the  entrances to the sanctuary.  One dollar at a time we can help financially support at-risk children at Buckhorn  Children & Family Services

God’s Coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old

university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups—porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite—telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:

“If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups...And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us.”

God brews the coffee, not the cups...Enjoy your coffee!

The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of

everything.”

Live simply. Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Independence Day

Freedom’s Price

Today we celebrate freedom
thanks to those who came before.
Those brave men who fought and died
in each and every war.
Freedom always comes at a price,
And while we celebrate
We should tip our hats to the heroes
who made our country great.
