Let God Guide You

by:  Cathering Pulsifer

Focus on happiness, not discontent

Thank God for the gifts that are heaven sent.

Rather than crying for what we have not

Give thanks for all that you've got.

Count your blessings and then

Share them with others again and again.

Always show patience, don't turn away

It will make life worthwhile tomorrow and today.

Giving helps others you know

But more importantly it helps you to grow.

God gave us the ability to do, not just try

Give thanks rather than cry.

Live your life full and true

Don't let life get you blue.

As you start your day

Get down on your knees and pray

Let God guide you In all that you do.

Rev. Hope Harle-Mould

Rev. Mr. Hope Harle-Mould was born in Michigan while his father, a Presbyterian pastor, was preaching. He grew up in Wisconsin, graduated from Union Theological Seminary (New York City), and was ordained by John Knox Presbytery (WI) in 1978. In Maryland he served as campus minister and founding director of an interfaith peacemaking group. In 1988 he became a UCC minister. In Ohio he served as youth minister, associate pastor, and then senior pastor. Coming to Western New York, he served as pastor & teacher of St. Peter’s UCC in West Seneca, 1999-2016. Currently, Pastor Hope is a supply preacher and is a freelance writer for the devotionals These Days, The Upper Room, and Devozine, and in the past has been published by three PCUSA magazines and written for two PCUSA curriculua. He is an active member of Pilgrim-St. Luke’s UCC, Buffalo, serving on their Welcoming Refugees committee - And he has done volunteer service in Honduras, Ghana, and Sierra Leone. Pastor Hope’s unusual first name started out as a nickname at church camp, where he was a counselor for two summers. When friends and family continued to call him Hope, he realized he was being given a spiritual name, and at age 22 legally changed his name. Residing in Kenmore, Hope and his wife of 40 years, UCC minister Linda Harle-Mould, are proud adoptive parents of three children and have four grandchildren. Hope loves stargazing, hiking in the woods, playing Frisbee, reading, going to movies, writing songs for guitar, and having his pet dove Gracie perch on his shoulder.

puppiesPuppies for Sale

A shop owner placed a sign above his door that said: “Puppies For Sale.”

Signs like this always have a way of attracting young children, and to no surprise, a boy saw the sign and approached the owner;   “How much are you going to sell the puppies for?” he asked.

The store owner replied, “Anywhere from $30 to $50.”

The little boy pulled out some change from his pocket. “I have $2.37,” he said. “Can I please look at them?”

The shop owner smiled and whistled. Out of the kennel came Lady, who ran down the aisle of his shop followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur.

One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy and said, "What's wrong with that little dog?"

The shop owner explained that the veterinarian had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn’t have a hip socket. It would always limp. It would always be lame.

The little boy became excited. “That is the puppy that I want to buy.”

The shop owner said, “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll just give him to you.”

The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner’s eyes, pointing his finger, and said; "I don't want you to give him to me.  That little dog is worth

every bit as much as all the other dogs and I’ll pay full price. In fact, I’ll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month until I have him paid for.”

The shop owner countered, “You really don’t want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies.”

To his surprise, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace.  He looked up at the

shop owner and softly replied, “Well, I don’t run so well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands!”

special harvest

A Special Harvest

The Lord blesses us abundantly

When we plant this type of seed —

Love our neighbors as ourselves

And helping others who are in need…

Cultivate the soil and watch the crops grow,

You shall reap a great harvest

With the love kindness you show…

Season comes and go,

But your crops shall never die,

Just have a little faith

And give it a try!

Have You Earned Your Tomorrow?

by Edgar Guest

Is anybody happier because you passed his way?

Does anyone remember that you spoke to him today?

This day is almost over, and its toiling time is through;

Is there anyone to utter now a kindly word of you?

Did you give a cheerful greeting to the friend who came along?

Or a churlish sort of "Howdy" and then vanish in the throng?

Were you selfish pure and simple as you rushed along the way,

Or is someone mighty grateful for a deed you did today?

Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that's slipping fast,

That you helped a single brother of the many that you passed?

Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said;

Does a man whose hopes were fading now with courage look ahead?

Did you waste the day, or lose it, was it well or sorely spent?

Did you leave a trail of kindness or a scar of discontent?

As you close your eyes in slumber do you think that God would say,

You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today?
