Good Friday Tenebrae Service

"Tenebrae" is the Latin word for "shadows" or "darkness."  The Tenebrae service has been celebrated by the Christian Church for many hundreds of years.  The service consists of readings, congregational responses to readings and sung responses - all of them centering on the events of Good Friday.  As the service progresses, the candles will be blown out one at a time until eventually the church is dark.
