About Mission & Justice
First Presbyterian of Westfield believes that Mission is the heart of the church. Through the generous donation of our parishioners' time, dedication, and spirit, we are able to help those in need, in Jesus' name. Whether that call has been to dig water wells halfway around the world, helping to rebuild homes halfway across the country after Hurricane Katrina, collecting canned goods for the local Food Pantry, or simply sharing a smile and a loving word with someone in need, we trust God to lead us there.
In Our Community
We help provide volunteer and financial support for many local programs and ministries, as well as our own fund raising programs such as the "Pennies For Hunger" campaign, which helps feed those less fortunate than us. Some of the programs we support include Hospice of Chautauqua County, the Chautauqua Area Habitat For Humanity, the Chautauqua County Jail Youth Program, the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo, St. Peter's Community Kitchen, and Westfield Food Pantry. These programs and contributions are funded in part by the "Yes, We CAN Support Mission" recyclables fund raising campaign.
In the United States
The need may start at home, but it doesn't end there. We also offer assistance to the Blue Star Mothers of America, the Medical Benevolence Foundation of Houston, Texas, Buckhorn Children's Foundation in Buckhorn, Kentucky, Samaritan's Purse in Boone, North Carolina, and the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, among others.
Around the World
We provide help, where and when we can, to organizations such as the Church World Service, which provides assistance and emergency relief to areas of the world we can't get to on our own. We also offer support to individuals in impoverished areas who wish to pursue careers in medicine in order to better their communities, while also strengthening their relationship with Christ.
How You Can Help
"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."
- Romans 12: 4-8 (NIV)
We each have our own gifts and talents, and they can all be used for God's greater good! This section of the website will be undergoing some growth soon, so please check back to find out how you can help.
