Rev. Dr. Shannon Smythe


Rev. Dr. Shannon Smythe is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University and Princeton Theological Seminary (MDiv, PhD). She is the author of Forensic Apocalyptic Theology: Karl Barth and the Doctrine of Justification and Women in Ministry: Questions and Answers in the Exploration of a Calling and several journal essays and articles on theological topics. 

Pastor Shannon is a sought-out preacher and teacher by congregations on topics of discipleship, faith, and race. Most recently, she was assistant professor of theological studies at Seattle Pacific University. She is passionate about incarnational ministry, faith formation for all ages and stages, and justice work. 

With over 13 years of ministry experience, she brings strong gifts of pastoral leadership as a preacher and teacher and loves to dream outside the box and creatively vision new ways to be the church for and in the world in today‚Äôs rapidly changing context. Shannon and her husband, Kevin, have a son, Micah, and a dog, Linus. Together they love exploring new places, being in nature, and creating beloved community with friends, neighbors, and church members.
